Abstract

Freshwater insects of 15 lakes and ponds, several former river beds of the Khokhryachiy Brook, several other brooks, and some small permanent and temporary water bodies were studied in the environs of Podpakhta Inlet and Dalniye Zelentsy. Special attention was paid to aquatic Coleoptera (Insecta). Ca. 100 adult specimens of the diving beetle Dytiscus lapponicus were collected with funnel traps and water nets in a pond (Plavuntsovoye) on the southern shore of the western inlet of the lake Podpakhtinskoye, for comparing the morphology of specimens from this population with those from southern Yamal Peninsula populations. In addition to aquatic insects, some terrestrial coleopterans were collected, in particular, from the family Staphylinidae. 15 rockpools on the shores of Podpakhta Inlet were described (using the method that is used in the study of rockpools on the Kem-Ludy islands, Gulf of Kandalaksha, White Sea). Several of the Coleoptera species found in the examined rockpools had never been reported from White Sea rockpools. At the same time, the predominant species are the same.
