- Some hints:
- By default, list is showing only 10 first species. You may want either to change it in "Show" dropbox, or browse with buttons located on the bottom riht corner of main table.
- By default, list is sorted by family an then by name. You may sort the list arbitarily clicking on small triangles from the top right of every column (for more than one column press "Shift").
- To find a plant, enter any part of its name into the search box (top right corner of the table). You may also want to sort the result.
- To make a county plant list, enter county name in a search box and (optionally) sort the counties column.
- To make a plant list of a particular source, enter its number (without dot or comma) into the search box and (optionally) sort the sources column.
- Everything described above works best in Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. If you do not see described effects, consider to change and/or update the browser.
- To download the whole database, simply save this page as *.html file.
- Red color is used for the names of rare and endangered "plants at risk".
- Blue color is used for the names of North Dakota state and counties noxious weeds whereas species non-native to North America are labeled as "introduced".
- If you do not find a name, please consider to check if it is not regarded now as a synonym. For example, all Aster names are now replaced with Symphyotrichum, Machaeranthera and others. To indicate sources contained synonyms, we use slanted font.
- For the native uses of North Dakota plants, see the North Dakota Ethnobotany Database.
- Flowering plant families are given in the accordance with the Systema Angiospermarum classification (specifically, with version 5.25), except for Labiatae s.l. which used here in more traditional sense. The preference is given to the traditional names of families (Compositae, Gramineae etc.) instead of alternative names (Asteraceae, Poaceae etc.). All ferns are listed under "Polypodiaceae".
- Species names (scientific and common) and species concepts are given in the accordance with USDA PLANTS database (2012/03/05, accessed via Taxonomic Name Resolution Service v3.0). Some taxomic concepts were updated with the recent version of USDA PLANTS.
- Due to the nature of herbarium databases used, cultivated plants are included in the checklist. However, their distribution is not accessed completely.
- Significant number of species do not have county data. We prefer to consider then as "questionable". To separate them from others, you may want to sort the counties column.
- Due to the enormous size of data (several thousands images), not all photographs are placed correctly. Please send corrections to the author's e-mail dactylorhiza at gmail.com. To make determination easier, all "Photo" links refer to the photographs in full (original from camera) resolution.
