THE LARVAE OF THE FALSE DARKLING BEETLES (COLEOPTERA, MELANDRYIDAE) OF RUSSIA, WITH TAXONOMIC NOTES
N.B. Nikifsky
Summary
For the first time ever, detailed keys to larvae of all taxa of false darkling beetles (Coleoptera, Melandryidae), known and supposed for Russia are given. These taxa are: Orchesia (micans, fusiformis and ocularis - the last is only in the drawing (the larvae of the latter two not found to be distinguishable), arnoldii, luteipalpis, minor, imitans, duplicata, fasciata, undulafa, elegantula), ? Anisoxya (fuscula), Anisoxiella (ocularis), Abdera (affinis, flexuosa, scriptipennis), Wanachia (triguttata, similis, trisignata - is only in the drawing/ Phloiotrya (bellicosa, flavitarsis, rugicollis, ? rufipes, obscura, vaudoueri, subfilis), Dircaea (quadriguttata), Paradircaea (dentatomaculata), Serropalpus (barbatus, marseuli), Phloeotrinus (femora/is}, Enchodes (orientalis, crepusculus), Xylita (laevigata), ? Scotochroa or ? Dolotarsus (livida), Rushia (parreyssii), Zilora (elongata, ferruginea), Euryvlora (lividipennis and ussurica (the last is only in the drawing), which we do not know for sure to be distinguishable from E. lividipennis), Hypulus (quercinus, bifasciatus), Melandrya (dubia, flavonofata, rausuana, caraboides, mongolica), Ivania (coccinea), Phryganophilus (ruficollis, auritus, affinis}, Co-nopalpus (tesfaceus), Osphya (bipunctata).
New subgenera of the genera Melandrya (Paramelandrya, subgen. nov. - type species Tenebrio dubus Schaller, 1783 and Pseudomelandrya, subgen. nov. - type species Melandrya flavonofata Pie, 1938) and Phryganophilus (Pseudophryganophilus, subgen. nov. - type species Melandrya affinis Nikitsky, 1985) are established. The species Melandrya rausuana is considered to belong to sub-genus Emmesa, not Prothalpia, as it was considered before by some authors.
The assumed synonymy of the monotypic subgenus Longemelandrya Pie, 1953, (described in the genus Melandrya F.) is based only on incompleteness of the description of this subgenus and type species - Melandrya (Longemelandrya) angustafa Pie, 1953 and also the specimen from the territory of Russia is very supposedly relating to this species; the type species locality also was not indicated. Therefore, Phryganophilus C. Sahlberg, 1833 (type species Dircaea ruficollis Fabricius, 1798) = ? Longemelandrya Pie, 1953, syn. nov. (type species Melandrya (Longemelandrya) angustafa Pie, 1953) = Phryganophiloldes Morishima, 1988 (type species Phyganophiloides elegans Morishima, 1988 = Phryganophilus auritus Motschulsky, 1845).
THE AQUATIC ADEPHAGA BEETLES (COLEOPTERA) OF SOUTHERN TYUMEN REGION
P.N. Petrov
Summary
A list of 79 species of aquatic Adephaga beetles (Coleoptera: Haliplidae, Noteridae, Dytiscidae, Gyrinidae) recordedin in Southern Tyumen region, West Siberia, is given. The list is based on the author's collecting, museum material, and literature information, and is compiled for the first time. Consequently, as many as 60 species are new for the region. The following four species are reported from Siberia for the first time: Bidessus grossepunctatus Vorbringer, Bidessus unistriatus (Goeze), Hydroporus scalesianus Stephens, and Ilybius guttiger (Gyllenhal) (Dytiscidae). Presence of Hydroporus neglectus Schaum (Dytiscidae) in Siberia is confirmed. Hydroporus pseudo-pubescens Zimmermann (Dytiscidae) is new species for West Siberia. Rhantus latitans Sharp and Graphoderus austriacus (Sturm) (Dytiscidae) are recorded from the West Siberian taiga zone for the first time. The aquatic Adephaga fauna from Southern Tyumen region is quite similar to the fauna of Central European Russia.
ON THE RELICT CONCEPT IN BOTANICAL GEOGRAPHY AND THE RELICT MANIA
A.G. Elenevsky, V.I. Radygina
Summary
The history of a relict concept and the points of view the diverse scientists are expounded. The authors share the opinion which have be.en expressed by Wangerin, Schroeter and Tolmatschev. According to their conception not every ancient species must be considered as a relict. The relict species have combination of some characters, which reveal disharmony with present conditions in its habitat. The autors support the Grosset's position and denay the tertiary age the nemoral thermophil plant species on the Russian plain. For determination of the age of the species and also the time of its entry into the flora it is nesessary to carry out the detailed florogenetical analysis with use of the facts in the diverse fields of knowledge. Superficial treatment of that problem led inevitably to the Relict mania. Theoretical propositions of the article are accompanied with the examples of the following species: Androsace kow-poljanskii, Globularia elongala, Daphne sophia, Dioscorea caucasica, Rhamphicarpa medwedewii, Laser trilo-bum, Dictamnus gymnostylis, Scrophularia vemalis.
EXPEMENCE OF AN ANALYSIS OF THE COLCHIS FLORISTIC COMPLEX (NORTHWESTERN TRANSCAUCASUS)
A.S. Zernov
Summary
Seemingly homogenous floristic complexes display different relations of genesis, when analyzed florogenetically in detail. Almost all considered species are naturally distributed within the Subtro- pical woodland zone. The beginning of their formation obviously dates back to the late Eocene - early Oligocene. With exception of Epimedium pinnatum, they have close relatives in North Ame- rica and Southeastern Asia. Close species have been found in the Far East for Ostrya carpinifolia, Periploca graeca, Scopolia carniolica (namely Ostrya japonica, Periploca sepium, Scopolia japonica), but, for instance, for Smilax excelsa and Prunus laurocerasus related species can only be specified within the same section. It is possible that the isolation of such groups from their arcto-ter-tiary ancestors took place no later than in Miocene. It is noteworthy that these species are usually found in mesotermic woodlands. In a whole, our data do not contradict with ideas of N.I. Kuz-netzov and M.G. Popov about arcto-tertiary moderate-subtropical origin of the Colchis woods, of which the woods of Northwestern Transcaucasus originate in their turn.
LIFE FORMS OF SOME SHORT-LIVED PERENNIAL SPECIES OF BORAGINACEAE JUSS. AND POSSIBLE TRENDS OF THEIR STRUCTURAL EVOLUTION
R.P. Barykina, V.Yu. Alenkin
Summary
The results of study of large life cycle of some biennials and annuals of Boraginaceae are discribed in the article. It is shown that early stages of onthogenesis are characterized by several common features. Three life forms are discribed'minding the structure of underground and abo- veground plant organs. It is revealed, that monocarpic shoot micro- and macrostructure as well as rhythm of development are closely connected with heteromericarpie. Possible trends of annuals origin in Boraginaceae are discussed.
ONTOGENESIS AND LIFE FORMS OF SAMBUCUS RACEMOSA L. IN CONIFEROUS BROAD-LEAVED FORESTS OF NERUSSO-DESNYANSKOE POLESYE
E.G. Didenko, O.I. Evstigneev
Summary
The detailed description of Sambucus racemosa L. ontogenesis is given on the basis of obser- vation in natural condition in coniferous-broad-leaved forests of Nerusso-Desnyanskoe Polesye. Peculiarities of ontogenesis have been shown for under different ecological conditions. Sambucus racemosa L. has three variants of life forms: aeroxylic compact bush (1), aeroxylic diffuse bush (2) and tree-like form (3). This species had two variants of life forms (1, 2) on open sites (forest meadow and cleared space) and three variants of life forms (1, 2, 3) under close canopy.
CHANGES OF THE FRUIT STRUCTURE BY TRANSFORMATION TO MONOSPERM FRUIT IN THE TRIBUS CARYOPHYLLEAEAE (CARYOPHYLLACEAE - CARYOPHYLLOIDEAE)
A.G. Deviatov, I.Yu. Ermilova
In result of study of pericarp anatomical structure of species with monosperm fruit (Acanthophyllum mucronatum) and polysperm capsules (species of Gypsophila and Allochrusa) we conclused, in tribus Caryophylleae of family Caryophyllaceae by transformation to monosperm fruit the reduction of pericarp and it his mechanical function.
ERAGROSTIS ALBENSISH. SCHOLZ (POACEAE), A NEW ALIEN SPECIES IN RUSSIAN FLORA AND DIAGNOSTICS OF EUROPEAN SPECIES OF E. PILOSA (L.) BEAUV. COMPLEX
H. Scholz, E. V. Mavrodiev, Yu.E. Alexeev
Summary
A new alien species in the Russian flora, Eragrostis albensis H. Scholz (Poaceae), was collected in the central district of Volgograd. Major morphological and biological features of this species are briefly discussed as well as the history and distribution of E. albensis in Europe. Original key to European species of E. pilosa (L.) Beauv. complex is presented.
ON THE CONCEPT OF "HYDROPHYLIC FLORA"
A. V. Slavgorodskiy
Summary
The debatable question of plant ecology - such as determination the group of species joined by a aquatic medium a medium forming factor by is discussed. There aspects of hydrophylic flora are considered relative character, hierarchy and interaction with vegetation.
GENUS NAVICULA S.L. (BACILLARIOPHYTA) OF WATER BODIES OF MOSCOW
C.A. Belyakova, M.A. Gololobova, O.L. Romanova, L. V. Tumbinskaya
Summary
The species composition of diatoms (Diatomeae) of water bodies of Moscow city was studying during 1994-1999. A complete check-list of Navicula, a central and very reach of species genus of the family Naviculacea, was composed based on both our results and data of all previous authors. This list contains 69 species or 83 species and subspecies taxa of Navicula sensu lato, 63 taxa were recorded at the first time. Among them, only 49 taxa are members of Navicula s. str. in recent understanding. Other 24 taxa are members of 11 other genera, which were excluded from Navicula according to recent taxonomical suggestions.
THE ESTIMATION OF ADVENTIZATION LEVEL OF SYNANTHROPIC CENOFLORAS OF BASHKORTOSTAN REPUBLIC TRANS URALS
L.M. Abramova
The adventization level of synanthropic cenofloras of segetal, ruderal and steppe vegetation of Bashkortostan Trans Urals was conducted with the use of the approach by I. Hanski. Maxinum number of synanthropic species was observed in synanthropic classes of initial stages of restora- tion successions of Chenopodietea and Artemisietea vulgaris and minimum - in class of natural steppe vegetation Festuco-Brometea and in synanthropic communities of wetlands of Bidentetea tripartitae class. In the first case in the composition of dominanting species of synanthropic cenof- loras there are mainly advents, in the second case there are native synanthropic species.
